Ain’t Shit Funny But A Joke Ni…

A Solo Exhibition by Tusevo Landu

Long Gallery: 29.01.26 – 05.03.26

“Ain’t Shit Funny But a Joke, Ni… is an exhibition that marks a pivotal transition in my artistic journey, a departure from the familiar terrain of painting into the uncharted realms of drawing.  These ink drawings on Fabriano paper are not acts of persuasion, but an embrace of raw process and creative intuition.

For years, painting was my primary medium, a space where colour, texture, and composition dictated my expression. This exhibition represents a deliberate shift, a shedding of old skins. Drawing demands a different kind of discipline; there is no room for error, no layers of paint to conceal hesitation. Each mark is permanent, each line a testament to presence and decision. The starkness of black ink on white paper forces me to engage with simplicity and restraint, to find depth in minimalism. The Fabriano surface, with its subtle tooth, holds the ink in a way that feels alive, each stroke vibrating with intention.

The title of the exhibition, Ain’t Shit Funny But a Joke, Ni… speaks to the absurd rigidity found in art, identity and expectation. Rather than mastery, the work explores surrender and the beauty of the accidental. The ink bleeds where it wants, the pen skips the paper, and in these unplanned textures, something honest emerges. Line is not just a tool but a voice. The contrast between thick and thin, dark and light, solid and fragmented, becomes a visual rhythm, a kind of music.

This exhibition honours transition, the beauty of the unfinished, and the courage it takes to step into the unknown.  Existing between time and space, Ain’t Shit Funny But a Joke, Ni... is a laugh in the face of expectations. It does not demand understanding, only witness. These drawings exist without pretence, as fragments of thought, moments of exploration, dedicated to the possibilities found in progress.”
