The Association for Visual Arts is an organisation for and by artists.
Traditionally the AVA has operated with a mini team of paid staff (between 2-4 members) plus a large base of volunteers.
The AVA board members (between 6-15) are our first source of volunteers. Nominated and elected by paid-up members at the Annual General Meeting to serve for a period of 2 years, that may be renewed for another 2 years, the AVA board is made up of professionals in the specific fields of Management (Executive Committee), Programming & Art Reach (Selection Committee), Finance (Fundraising Committee), Marketing (Marketing & Membership Committee), Governance & Compliance (Governance Committee).
A second source of immeasurably valuable volunteers consists of a pool of people that complete the form in the next column.

The AVA Exhibition Installation Training Programme
Are you interested in learning the skills required to professionally install an exhibition?
In September 2018 we put out a call for motivated, enthusiastic individuals with a keen interest in arts and culture to apply for the Exhibition Installation Training Programme, which saw teams of 3-4 trainees participate in on-the-job training hosted by rotating professional installers. For 3 consecutive days in a month trainees learnt various aspects of installing 2D wall based artwork and 3D artwork, such as:
Basic curatorial concepts and considerations;
Essential tools and fittings for artwork installation;
Basic formulas and measurements for hanging heights and visual eye-lines;
Lighting plans and implementation.
Health and safety requirements.
This programme is supported by the Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) in association with Nedbank Arts Affinity.
Phase 1 of this programme concludes at the end of 2018. If you are interested in receiving updates regarding a possible second phase of the Exhibition Installation Training Programme, be sure to subscribe to our newsletter below. All announcements regarding open calls for applications are sent out via our newsletter.
