Gill Allderman

Exhibition: Who Is King? And What Do I Know? (Solo Show) | 20.11.25 - 24.01.26

Gill Allderman (b. 1959) is a contemporary mixed-media artist whose practice explores themes of movement, history, and belonging. Working across painting, assemblage, and textile-based media, she constructs layered narratives that trace the passage of time and the complexity of lived experience.

Allderman’s process is tactile and intuitive - she glues, slices, paints, and stitches, creating cross- sections through memory and material. Domestic fabrics, burlap sacks, and hessian surfaces become her canvases, elevated from the everyday to the poetic. Through these interventions, she questions hierarchies of value and celebrates the beauty embedded in ordinary labour and domestic ritual.

Holding a Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art with distinction from the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town (2021), Allderman’s work is deeply informed by place and by the fluidity of water as both refuge and metaphor. Her visual language balances concept and abstraction, translating personal history into broader reflections on displacement, continuity, and the search for meaning within the spaces we cross and inhabit.

She has exhibited both locally and internationally, and her evolving body of work continues to weave a tactile tapestry of life, memory, and transformation.
