“Art has always been part of my life. I grew up with artist parents in a home full of creativity. My mother painted and sculpted, while my father balanced his roles as an engineer and an artist and even held a solo exhibition of sculptures at the Association for Visual Arts 50 years ago: continuing that legacy now brings me great joy.
My work is rooted in minimalist abstraction, drawing on the essence of landscapes and also the emotional and meditative power of colour. These are personal reflections, quiet yet expansive, inspired by the beauty, mystery and internal journeys that arise from the natural world.
Though I initially pursued a path in civil engineering, I later found myself drawn to complementary health practices, where the healing aspects of colour and creative expression became central to my work. Having spent most of my life in Cape Town, Table Mountain is both a physical and emotional anchor. It has been a place of solace and adventure, a backdrop to walking, climbing, swimming, laughing and grieving.
Naturally, therefore, mountains often emerge in my work, although other landscapes from the sea to the desert occasionally make their way in too. That deep connection to place is what I bring into the studio, a space where I feel similarly grounded and free. Here, painting becomes a form of medicine: meditative, playful and profoundly transformative.”
