Davina de Beer
Exhibition: Meeting Point (Solo Show) | 02.10.25 - 13.11.25
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and now based in Seville, Spain, South African painter and visual investigator, Davina de Beer, creates paintings in acrylics and thread that interrogate concepts of loss, repair, and materiality. In her visual inquiries, she approaches the painting surface as a disrupted and lived experience that carries visual traces of time and memory. Her creative practice often involves cutting her own paintings into fragments that she reassembles and stitches into new compositions, looking for ways to make connections between the unfinished and disrupted forms. Before moving to Spain, De Beer lived in Oman for thirteen years, where she taught art and exhibited locally and internationally. Her exhibitions include group shows at the Bait AL Baranda and Bait AL Zubair in Muscat, Oman, Galeria Zunino in Seville, Spain, the Oliewenhuis Art Museum in Bloemfontein, South Africa. She has had solo exhibitions at Gallery Sarah, Muscat, Oman, and at Gallery 76, Dubai, The UAE. In South Africa, her work has been selected for the SASOL New Signatures Art Competition and the ABSA L’Atelier Art Competition, and more recently in 2024 her work was selected as one of the Top 40 at the Arte Aparte Art Competition in La Carolina, Spain. She received a painting award from the Ministry of Education in Oman in 2010. Davina de Beer holds a Master of Fine Art from the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein, South Africa.
