The Art of Existing
By Careshia Esperanza and Kyle Jardine
Long Gallery: 18.06.26 - 30.07.26
The Art of Existing, a bold and emotionally resonant exhibition by emerging artists Kyle Jardine and Careshia Esperanza, explores themes of identity, existence, and community through a deeply personal and vibrantly expressive visual language.
Set against the backdrop of a world in flux, this exhibition confronts the tension between repression and liberation, pain and joy, isolation and belonging. Through painting and mixed media, Jardine and Esperanza present a dynamic dialogue between the inner world and the external landscape, a conversation held in colour, line, and form.
The Art of Existing examines the relevance of being alive, identity & growing up in a modern society, not as passive or suffering identities, but as active, radiant forces of power, rebirth, and self-determination in their unique voices & worlds they have constructed.
The exhibition asks, what does it mean to be seen, to be held, to express, to belong in a modern world when gender expression has been both celebrated and suppressed? What does possibility truly offer and look like in the distinctive worlds they have created?
The artists' styles are unique yet symbiotic. Kyle Jardine, drawing on his theatrical background, brings playful structure and whimsical complexity to his works. His colourful, storybook-like scenes depict a unique perspective on masculinity, romance, and beauty, weaving humour and tenderness through characters that invite curiosity and emotional connection. He explores themes of memory, place & imagination through an almost fantastical world he’s constructed. The significance objects hold, while historical flair becomes a language of both performance and authenticity through the paintbrush. It’s a celebration of identity, seen through the lens of fantasy, design, and emotional truth.
Careshia Esperanza, in contrast, explores the feminine form and depth through fluid linework, rich contrasts, and in-mate figurative compositions. Her work juxtaposes soft hues, flowing expressions alongside the use of dark tones, punctuating the tension with bursts of colour that affirm resilience & individuality.
She explores the feminine form as a site of power, vulnerability, and transformation through gesture & figuration. In contrast, she captures the quiet strength of femininity through moments of sensuality, softness and resilience alongside solitude that carry emotional weight. Her work reflects the layered experience of womanhood, empowerment, and intensity. The forms become both a symbol of identity and a vessel for memory.
Together, their contrasting aesthetics are united through a shared palette, like work and a visual rhythm that echoes their common themes, vulnerability, memory, existence, emergence, and joy. The exhibition explores hard lines, soft curves, bright hues, shadowed tones, and the interplay between the individual and the collective. It invites viewers to contemplate their own emotional dualities and the way we navigate both solitude and community, and the constructed world we exist in.
The Art of Existing does not shy away from struggle; it embraces it. The works reflect on inner demons, isolation, and self-questioning, but always return to the notion of hope. It is a journey through darkness toward illumination. Through art, Jardine and Esperanza reveal how creativity becomes a lifeline, a tool for healing, connection, and transformation. This exhibition is a celebration of identity, belonging & existing together. It is a space where softness is strength, where difference is beauty, and where silence gives way to colour, texture, and form.
The Art of Existing honours the power of community, how we come together not to erase our differences, but to witness and celebrate them. It recognises that while each of us walks our own path, art provides the shared space where we exhale together. A space of truth, expression, belonging, and liberation.
The Art of Existing is a visual poem. A collective exhale. A reclamation of space, body, voice, and joy. It is a rising through art, life & the journey of what it means to be alive.
