Ulriche Jantjes

AVA Exhibition: A Collection To A Degree (Group Show)| 06.03.25 16.04.25

Ulriche Jantjes (b.1997) was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. Despite growing up in the city, her roots stem from Elim, a Moravian mission settlement located in the Overberg. Elim was established by German missionaries in 1824. Referencing this specific history, Ulriche’s work is symbolic of a personal reflection on her heritage. By contemplating landscape and the history it enfolds, her practice, which includes painting and print making, negotiates interpretations of the past and future. In 2019, Ulriche completed her Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art at the University of Cape Town (UCT), where oral histories formed the essence of her research. Thereafter, she continued her exploration of heritage, and graduated with a Masters in Fine Art at the same institution in 2022. Since 2019, Ulriche has participated in numerous group exhibitions and solo shows. Most recently, she presented a solo exhibition titled “Vigil” at 99 Loop Gallery in Cape Town. Ulriche also participated in the 2024 Investec Cape Town Art Fair with a solo booth titled “In the Midst”. She is currently based in Cape Town where she works as a full-time artist.
