Alexa Brews’ (b. 2002, South Africa) work stems from an interest in materiality, texture and the inherent constrictions that lie within femininity. With a background in fashion design, she has used her previous knowledge of fabrication and garment construction to develop an organic biomaterial. This current body of work functions as an exploration of the abject, and indirectly asks the viewer questions around aging, imperfection, and permanence.
