Loyiso Qanya (b. 1976) graduated with Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town in 2005. Since then, he has been active in the visual arts, working as a curator, artist and consultant. He facilitated various art classes, at the former Community Arts Project (CAP), Jame’s House Children’s Home and Amy Biehl Foundation Trust, and has participated in numerous workshops including Tupelo International Workshop, both in 2005 and 2007, the Curator’s Workshop in 2006, and Critical Writing Workshop in 2008.
He was appointed the Trainee Curator of Contemporary Art post at South African National Gallery in 2006-7. He is a member of Visual Arts Network of South Africa, (VANSA) where he served as a founding board member on the Western Cape region, and served in the Selection Committee of Association for Visual Arts (AVA). He also served as an adjudicator for Sanlam Child Art Competition. In 2009, he curated ‘Umahluko’ for the CAPE 09 biennale. Qanya has recently been appointed as the Director of Greatmore Studios and Thupelo, Woodstock Cape Town.
