UTOPIA HAS BEEN CANCELLED by Alexander Knox

04.07.2019 -
15.08.2019

lAexander Knox’s latest exhibition depicts a bleak dystopian future.

Meticulously rendered in oils, his works fall into the realm of imaginative realism, maintaining a delicate balance between sentimental human interactions and disturbingly visceral post-apocalyptic scenes. These settings are derived from photographs taken around the Western Cape, yet do not specifically represent a post-apocalyptic South Africa. The viewer is left to wonder what terrible fate has befallen the world, who the individual is and what their life story might be.

Knox has participated in various art fairs and group exhibitions in Cape Town and Johannesburg and was in the 2017 Sanlam Portrait Award Top 40. This is his first solo exhibition.

Join us for the opening this coming First Thursday, 04 July, at 6pm on the Mezzanine Gallery at AVA Gallery. Exhibition open daily until 15 August.
